Madonna Mulrooney

August 21, 1934 – October 21, 2022

It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Madonna Mulrooney.

Mom passed away at Placentia Hospital in her 88th year, surrounded by her beloved family. Mom was the centre of our world and known to her grandchildren as their best friend. She opened her door to many and always insisted their bellies were full before leaving. Walking into her home was like receiving a warm hug.

Predeceased by her adoring husband, Daniel Mulrooney; her children Mercedes, Mary and Sammy; daughter-in-law Carol-Ann; grandson Joshua; special nephew Frankie; parents Jack and Elizabeth Lake; siblings Beatrice, Gerard, Thomas and Mercedes; parents-in-law Fred and Ellen Mulrooney; sisters-in-law Mary, Margaret and Gertrude; as well as brothers-in-law Patrick and Fred.

Leaving to mourn are her loving and devoted children Austin (Shirley), Kate (Frank), Dan (Louise), Bonnie, Mary (Mack), Yvonne (Jerry), Sadie (Des), and Darlene (Jerry); her son-in-law Wish Palfrey; the joys of her life her 20 wonderful grandchildren, her 20 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; her siblings Henry (Mary), Dennis (Loretta), Jack (Bert), Regina (Dermot), Nora, Martha (Jim), Lynette (Pius), and Maureen (Jim); as well as special friends Anne Wakeham, the Whalens and the Pomroys. Living on the flats of Jerseyside for 50 years, we were blessed with the best friends and neighbours.

We would like to thank Mom’s doting workers Pearl, Kelly, Loretta and Geraldine, and the staff at Placentia Health Centre for their outstanding care over the years, especially Dr. Robert Power, who held a special place in her heart.

Our mother was held in the highest esteem and revered by many.

Resting at Maher’s Funeral Home, Placentia on Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to 4pm and 6pm to 9pm. Mass of Christian Burial to take place 12pm on Monday, October 24th at Sacred Heart Church, Placentia. Interment to follow at Dermot McGettigan Memorial Cemetery, Southeast Placentia.

but whose place no one else can take”
