Dominik Krupnik Obituary check_circle

Peacefully, on May 12, 2016 at the Gimli Hospital with
his family at his side Dominik Krupnik passed away at age 92.
He was predeceased by his brothers Jan Rychlewski and Franek Krupnik; and his son Victor.
He leaves to mourn Maria his wife of 59 years; 4 children Jadwiga (John) Ciupak, Jozef (Wendy) Krupnik, Edward (Wanda), and Anna (Philippe) Boudreau; and 6 grandchildren William (Sarah) and Adam (Indogo)
Krupnik; Amelia and Nicholas Krupnik; Anastasia and Danielle Boudreau.
Dominik was born in Dawidkowce, Poland on Oct.5
1923, to Jozef and Anna (Salej) Krupnik. As a teen he started making shoes,
carving the wooden shoe forms himself. During WW 2 he was taken to Germany as a
forced laborer where he was assigned to work on farms in Bavaria. After the war
the region of his village was taken from Poland and given to Russia and his
parents were resettled in western Poland. With a passion to get to Canada he became head cook
at the displaced persons camp and worked at a shoe factory while working to get to Canada.
In 1948 Dominik arrived in Canada and worked on his
Uncle Peter Krupnik’s farm in Fraserwood. He later moved to Winnipeg where he married
Maria Krzyzewski and they started a family. Dominik and was quite
involved in the community of Holy Ghost Church, working as an usher,
fundraising socials and building the Holy Ghost School. He worked at various
jobs including Inland Steel, Garson Limestone and Greb Shoes.
In 1964 the family moved to Fraserwood when he
bought his Uncle Peter’s farm. Initially farming the old-fashioned way with
hard work he built up the farm year by year working with Maria and the
children. He bought a welder so he could repair his equipment without delay and
designed and built an addition which doubled the size of the Farm house. Always
a handyman and a hard worker, he tackled many a renovation project in the Fraserwood
and Gimli area. Always having a positive attitude, Dominik proudly
overcame various health problems in later life and moved to Betel Home in Gimli
where he lived 5 months.
Prayers will be on Tuesday, May17th at 7:00 p.m. and Funeral Mass on Wednesday, May18th 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s R.C. Church in Gimli. Interment will
follow at Precious Blood R.C. Cemetery, Fraserwood.
