It is with great sadness that the family of Annette Marie Van De Hogen announces her passing on Monday August 9, 2021 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance at the age of 77.  Born October 15, 1943 in Dover Township, Annette was the daughter of the late Wilfred & Beulah (Griffore) Benoit and was the 7th of 10 children.  She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 57 years, Peter Van De Hogen, her son Jason (Elaine) Van De Hogen and her grandchildren Ian and Emily.  She was predeceased by her daughter Lisa Anne in 1964.

She was the beloved sister of the late Omer Benoit (survived by Rita), the late Donald Benoit (survived by Anna), Doreen Alexander (late Donald), the late Bernice & Edward Fiala, Diane Myers (late Robert), Leo Benoit (Adrienne) (late Florence Benoit), Jeannette Fiala (late Frank), Roland & Connie Benoit and Lucille & Jean Laprise.  She’ll be missed by many nieces and nephews.

Annette and Pete met at a dance at the CBD Hall in Chatham, and it was love at first sight.  Soon after wedding, they settled on Communication Road in Blenheim where they farmed and raised their family.  Attending weekly mass at St. Mary’s Church in Blenheim and being a member of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) were important to Annette.

Annette loved to cook and is fondly remembered for having baked and decorated many a loved ones’ wedding & birthday cakes.  Annette (aka the Bun Lady to many) enjoyed a good cup of coffee with family and friends catching up on the latest news.  Above all, she loved her family and was a very proud Mémé to Ian and Emily whom she generously spoiled, even devising a much anticipated and loved annual Easter egg hunt.

Visitation for Annette will take place at the Blenheim Community Funeral Home on Friday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Mary’s Church on Saturday August 14, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Blenheim.

Family and friends wishing to attend either the visitation or the Funeral Mass are asked to call the Funeral Home at 519-676-9200 to reserve a time.  Everyone in attendance must wear a face covering.   Friends wishing to remember Annette with a memorial donation are asked to consider CNIB or Heart & Stroke.
