Lawrence Downing Obituary
Our father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Lawrence Ralph Downing, born August 12, 1927 passed away peacefully on March 23, 2017 at St. Paul’s Hospital.
He is survived by his brother, Melvin (Fay) Downing; sisters, Lorraine (Bill) Jablonski and Marie Burgess; son, Bernie (Norma) Downing; daughter, Cathy (Les) Dahlen; son, Dennis (Melanie) Downing; daughter, Valerie (Stuart) Rasmussen; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and 2 step-children, Cory Sinclair and Lane Rowatt.
He is predeceased by his first wife, Mary of 39 years and his second wife, Margaret of 14 years; brothers, Fred, Dave, Joe, Leo and Ernie; and his sister, Jeanette.
His passion in life was dancing. He went to the old time dances up to three times a week and the ladies lined up to dance with him because nobody else had the fancy footwork that he did! He spent a lot of hours building doll houses etc. and all the miniature furniture to go with them. He loved spending time with his family and friends and never turned away any visits from the ladies in his building. He will be dearly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th St; first right past Briargate Rd).
In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Kidney Foundation.
