Victoria Burlack Obituary check_circle

Victoria Burlack (Tchorzewski)
December 15, 1920 à March 10, 2017

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Victoria (Vicky) Burlack announces her passing at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon. Vicky passed away peacefully at age 96 after several months of deteriorating health.

Vicky was born on December 15, 1920 on a farm near Alvena, Saskatchewan to parents Anthony and Anna (nee Hrycan) Tchorzewski.

Vicky was the youngest sibling of one brother, Isadore and three sisters, Mary Bazowski, Julia Michasiw, and Helen who only survived two months; and two step-sisters Zalia Posadowski and Antonia Navalkowski and step-brother Stanislaw Tchorzewski.

She walked several miles to school in Alvena, while assisting her family in maintaining the farm. In her teenage years, she worked as a housemaid to several prominent residents of Rosthern, Saskatchewan. While in Rosthern, she met and married Anton (Tony) Burlack on September 29, 1940. Tony had enlisted in the Canadian army and they started their early married life stationed in Ottawa.

They raised their family in Rosthern until moving to Saskatoon in 1958. Vicky successfully juggled the roles of homemaker, raising teenage daughters, caregiver to her ailing mother Anna, and waitress at the downtown Coop cafeteria.

After the passing of her mother in 1979, and marriage of their daughters, Tony and Vicky enjoyed their years as empty nesters until they moved from their home in to the Manor Condominiums at St. Volodymyr Seniors Centre. After the passing of Tony she continued to enjoy her friends and neighbors at the Manor, until failing vision prompted her to move in 2016 to the Assisted Care Terrace facilities at St. Volodymyr. She was a lifetime member of Sts. Peter and Paul in Saskatoon and was involved in UCWLC. She enjoyed her St. Volodymyr community and made many friends playing cards and socializing.

Vicky is survived by her daughter Marcelia (Donald) Bobyn and Jean (Otto) Babichuk, six grandchildren; Gregory (Stacey) Bobyn, Linda (Christian) Buck, Ronald Bobyn, Kelly (Theresa) Babichuk, Roger Babichuk, and Jason (Lesley) Babichuk; and her cherished 18 great-grandchildren Laura, Amy, and David Bobyn; Elise, Sarah, Jonathan, and Owen Buck; Kailey, and Breanne Bobyn; Joshua, Alexander, Dylan, and Emily Babichuk ; Alison, and Cory Babichuk ; Kyle, Rachael, and Mary Babichuk.

Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 and Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, both at St. Volodymyr Villa Chapel at 3102 Louise Place, Saskatoon, with celebrants Rt. Rev. Fr. Vladimir Mudri and Rt. Rev. Fr. Andrew Muzyka. Interment in Woodlawn Catholic Cemetery, beside her dear husband Tony, will follow.

Donations in lieu of flowers are encouraged to be made to St. Volodymyr Seniors Centre c/o John Lewchuk at 3102 Louise Place, Saskatoon, SK S7J 4X4 which provided such loving care by their devoted staff.

Special thanks are extended to Vicky’s niece Doreen Bayda for her diligent attention and love, also caregiver Shiela Trumpy.
