Harold F House Obituary check_circle

Harold F. House passed away peacefully on April 7, 2012 in Anchorage, Alaska. A lifelong Alaskan and early homesteader, Mr. House’s employment included union carpentry, State of Alaska, and 31 years as building maintenance superintendent at Abbott Loop Church. Mr. House also served as elder and vice president of his church.

Harold Frederick House was born in Gordon, Nebraska December 20, 1929 to Fred and Faith House. Harold and his younger sister, Arlyce were raised by their mother, a nurse, in Ainsworth Nebraska.

Growing up, Harold enjoyed basketball, cartoon sketching, and spending time with friends. Mr. House joined the navy as a 17-year-old, and married Sharon Lantz in Ainsworth in 1948. They moved to California where daughter, Sheryl, was born. In 1952, following his father’s footsteps, Mr. House moved his family to Alaska and homesteaded on the corner of Miller Loop and Island Lake Roads in Nikiski. Son, Steven, was born in 1952 during a trip back home to Nebraska. There was a divorce a few years later, and Mr. House relocated to Anchorage.

In 1958 Mr. House married Muriel "Mickie" Feidt Henderson, and adopted her three small children, Scott, Linda, & Jon. Having a heart to serve, Mr. House continually involved himself in work projects, whether it was working on the church, youth campground, or on his home. Though dedicated to his church and work, Mr. House enjoyed hunting trips with his boys, and family fishing trips on the Kenai River.

Mr. House had gradually declined in health following the death of his beloved wife, Mickie, of 51 years in 2009. He had been lovingly cared for by Linda and Walt Arden, Mr. House’s daughter and son-in-law.

His parents, great-granddaughter, Zhanessa Martin, son Steven House, and his wife Muriel House preceded Mr. House in death. Mr. House is survived by his children Scott House, Sheryl Martin, Linda Arden, and Jon House; his sister, Arlyce Wuerz; 14 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.

Services will be at Anchorage City Church, 1301 W. 100th Avenue at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, April 18, 2012.
