Ashland – Funeral services for Mrs. Sara L. Royals, 67, of Ashland, will be Friday, January 20, 2012, at 1 P.M. at Pleasant Hill Methodist Protestant Bible Church with the Rev. John Luckie and the Rev. David Holcombe officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Mrs. Royals passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at her home. A native and life long resident of Clay County, Sara had worked for Higgins Manufacturing for over 23 years. In 1995 she began 15 years of service as secretary for the Benefield Funeral Homes of Ashland and Lineville. Sara was a member of Pleasant Hill Methodist Protestant Bible Church and loved singing in the choir. Mrs. Royals is survived by her husband of 47 years, Billy Wayne Royals, of Ashland; her mother, Arba V. Whitehead and her sister, Brenda F. Mattox (Troy), of Ashland. She was preceded in death by her father, Wilburn L. Whitehead. Pallbearers will be Wesley Pitts, Gene Luckie, Ben Weathers, Travis Jackson, Ronnie Lacey and Johnnie Lacey. Honorary pallbearers will be Milton Jackson, Charles Higgins, Jack Long, Harold Hill and Jerry O’Neal. The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland this evening, January 19, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 P.M.
