Richard Elmer “Dick” Arnoldy Obituary check_circle

Our beloved father, grandfather, friend, Richard ‘Dick’ Elmer Arnoldy, passed away January 30, 2012, at the age of 79. He was born December 14, 1932 to Elmer and Geraldine (Williston) Arnoldy in Yuba City, CA and was a life-long resident.

Dick was a bright light with a huge heart and loved by so many people. He attended Notre Dame grammar school in Marysville, graduated from Marysville High School in 1951 where he lettered in basketball, football, baseball, excelled in academics and was student body president. He received a scholarship to University of San Francisco where he played on the last and undefeated Don’s football team of 1951.

He attend Yuba College where he played on the 1953 Orange Show Bowl Championship Team. Dick served in the US Army from 1954-55. He then attended the University of Utah graduating in 1957 with a B.S. in Business Administration.

An agent for New York Life Insurance, he owned his own insurance company for over 40 years and was actively involved in real estate development.

Dick married Betty Caffrey Burger on April 14, 1973 in Sausalito, CA. They were married for 37 years, enjoyed many fun trips with family and endearing friends, most notably taking his high school class on a trip to Hawaii for their 50th year reunion.

An avid athlete he was a longtime member of the Yuba City Raquet Club, the Exchange Club, and the Foothill Gun Club. He was an inductee (1994) and committee member of the Northern Calif. Sportsman’s Association (Old Timers Hall of Fame), New York Life Million Dollar Roundtable, one of the original members of Peach Tree Country Club, on the board of Rideout Hospital for years, inducted into the Yuba College Hall of Fame, and received an Honorary Doctorate of Humanity from USF for his participation on the Don’s football team.

He is survived by his loving daughters, June (Craig) Brookins, Dawna (Jerome) Daniel, Sandy (Dan) Lewis, Stacy (Don) Walsh & Debbie (Kevin) Kenny; grandchildren, Richard, Alexandria & Tyler, Jerome, Jenny, Betsy, Meg, Ellie, Glyn, Ryan, Jeffrey, Aly, Bradley, Madi, Cole & Aubrey; and great grandson Parker Owen. Also survived by his loving stepchildren, Kathy (Carl) Burnett, Teresa (Rick) Schaeffer, Cindy (Ken) Workman, John (Jennifer) Burger, Patricia (Ivan) Lindgren & step grandchildren, Joseph, Gary Michael, Jennifer, Matthew, Kayla, Brooke, Katie, Stephanie, John, Trey, Teal, Samantha & Kathryn & 7 step great grandchildren; his devoted sister Phyllis (Joe) Massae; also 2 nieces and 2 nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Arnoldy, his parents, his brothers and sister-

in-law, Jim, Jack and Lela Arnoldy.

A mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, February 4 at 10 AM at St. Isadore’s Catholic Church with a reception to follow at Ruthy’s (Hillcrest Plaza).

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested in Dick’s name to Freemont-Rideout Hospital Foundation, 989 Plumas Street, Yuba City, California 95991 and Jesuit Retreat Center of Los Altos, 300 Manresa Way, Los Altos, California 94022.
