ALBRECHT, JOHN GOODMAN June 8, 1921 to October 27, 2011 John Goodman Albrecht, blessed with ninety healthy years, died peacefully in his home, at La Costa Glen, in Carlsbad California, on October 27, 2011. John will be remembered as a devoted Christian, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, coach, and teacher. John was the mainstay of the Albrecht family. John, a modest man, was born in Madison, Wisconsin in 1921. He served in the United States Army during World War II, during which time he met Vaughn, who was in the Women’s Air Corps. John graduated from the University of Iowa in 1948 and married Vaughn, his wife of sixty- three years. He had a successful career as a football coach in Bettendorf, Iowa. He then moved to California and taught for 35 years in the San Bernardino School District. John and Vaughn retired to Solana Beach to live the next twenty-five years on the Lomas Santa Fe Golf Course. John was a natural athlete, an avid sports fan, and a lifetime supporter of the Hawkeyes. His knowledge of and love for baseball, football, golf, and motocross was extraordinary. John is survived by Vaughn; his children Vicki and David, John and Chris, Edward and Pam; his grandchildren Jeremy, Jackie, Joel, Carly, Justin Michael, Joey, Jamie, Cara, Justin Wynn; his great-grandchildren Hunter, Noah, Trevor, Nathan, McKenna, and Hayden. John’s entire family, and friends will miss him. Memorial service will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church located at 424 Via de la Valle, Solana Beach, California, 92075, on Sunday November 6th at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Calvary Lutheran Memorial Fund or San Diego HOSPICE.
