Carolyn “Mitty Keene Baker Obituary check_circle

BUCKSPORT – Carolyn "Mitty" Keene Baker, 95, passed away Feb. 2, 2012, surrounded by her loving family at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. Carolyn was born June 7, 1916, to Ralph and Blanche (Hutchins) Ginn. She was the youngest of nine children. She graduated in 1935 with honors from Walter F. Gardner High School, Bucksport. One of her proudest memories of high school was winning a state of Maine sponsored history competition and receiving a $10.00 gold piece. Mitty owned and operated Keene Kitchenette for several years, worked many years as a waitress, and retired as secretary of Luman Warren Elementary School after many years of service. Those who worked with Mitty knew she did everything from mending pants to bandaging scraped knees. Mitty was an avid reader, loved to crochet and was a talented seamstress. She was a strong and loving mother to her four boys. She would give to everyone else before she ever took anything for herself. She supported all of her children and grandchildren through their sporting events, and could not have been any prouder then to know that they were all successful in life. She had patience and tenderness through the challenges of life, never letting a moment go by without showing her love for everyone. She will be sadly missed, but there is comfort in knowing that the day she was so longing for has finally come – she is back with her mother! In our hearts forever we will hear you sing "Down the river we go!" She was predeceased by her parents, eight siblings; first husband, Russell H. Keene; second husband, Harold E. Baker; daughter-in-law, Vicki L. Keene; and grandson, Russell L. Keene. She is survived by her sons, Douglas L. Keene and wife, Nancy, of Vanceboro, Brentley D. Keene and wife, Sally, of Homer, Alaska, Gary R. Keene of North Conway, N.H., and David G. Keene of Bucksport; grandchildren, Tammara Keene, Denise Keene, Carolyn Farren, Tesha Murdoch, Talia Keene, Dustin Keene, Makenzie and Logan Keene, Jhoseph and Matthew Keene, and Corinne Malenfant; great-grandchildren, Jason Keene, Brittany Dailey, Russell Sibert, Brentley and Adam Sheehan, Natalie and George Farren, Josie Murdoch, Tallulah Heenan, Drew and Jordan Malenfant, Nate Gray, Jaelon, Glenn and Marina Keene; great-great-grandchildren, Aleea Dailey and Autumn Sheehan; as well as several special nieces and nephews. The family wishes to invite friends and family to visiting hours 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport. There will be a graveside service in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital Family Care Suite, 50 Union St., Ellsworth, ME 04605.
