Jane D Annis Obituary
DOVER-FOXCROFT – Jane D. Annis, 87, wife of the late Philip S. Annis, died Feb. 4, 2012, at Hibbard Nursing Home, Dover-Foxcroft. She was born Dec. 17, 1924, in Milo, the daughter of W. Lawrence and Olivia (Johnston) Doble. She was a graduate of Milo High School, class of 1942, and Farmington State Teachers College, class of 1946, majoring in home economics. She taught at Edward Little High School, Auburn, and in the Dover-Foxcroft school system before devoting herself to her family and community activities. Jane was the loving wife of the late Philip S. Annis, whom she married in 1947 and with whom she enjoyed 57 years. During that time she took an active role in the day-to-day operations of Lary Funeral Home. She loved her home in Dover-Foxcroft where she came as a bride and resided for nearly 65 years. She also enjoyed her cottage at Sebec Lake where she spent every summer since 1957. She was a member of Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years, served on various committees and was a member of the Women’s Fellowship. She participated in HAD 4 Hospital Auxiliary and in a therapeutic swim group at Piscataquis Regional YMCA for more than 20 years. She cheerfully supported Phil’s many civic activities. Jane was formerly a member of the Molasto Club, a Girl Scout leader, a member of the FA Band Boosters, the AFS Chapter, and other school groups which supported the interests of her children. She and Phil hosted the first American Field Service exchange student at Foxcroft Academy in 1966-1967, Marit Storeng Van der Bosch of Oslo, Norway. Family was the central focus of her life. She nurtured, encouraged, cared for and cherished each member of her family circle in a warm and loving way that will last forever. She also enjoyed and greatly appreciated many dear friendships and their support, especially after Phil’s death. She is survived by a son, Eric L. Annis; a daughter, Lorinda A. Schrager and her husband, Barry; three grandchildren, Ethan L. Annis and his wife, Heather, Emily L. Annis and her fiance, Todd P. Winchester, and Katharine A. Schrager; and a great-granddaughter, Ella I. Annis. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, James Bates; two sisters-in-law, Mary Doble and Zelma Gorham; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Benjamin C. Doble and James L. Doble; and her sister, Lora Bates. Friends are invited to call 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church with the Rev. Chad Poland officiating.
