Ron ABNEY, Obituary check_circle

ABNEY, Ron Memorial services for Mr. Ron Abney, 70, of Cochran who died Saturday, December 31, 2011 in Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 5, 2012 in the Cochran First Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Brooks officiating. Mr. Abney was born in Bleckley County, the son of the late Wilmer (Buddy) Abney and Sara Purser Abney. He was a graduate of Cochran High School Class of 1959 where he was a starter on the basketball team that won the State Basketball Championship in Class A. He was a graduate of Middle Georgia College and the University of Georgia Class of 1963. He was a former employee of the Georgia Forestry Commission. He became the campaign manager for Gov. Nelson Rockefeller in New York and later became the head of Transportation for the state of New York. He later worked for the International Republican Institute. He moved back to Cochran in 1999. He was a full time fundraiser for Takeo Orphanage of Cambodia. He was a member of Cochran First Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Lee (Robert) Darter of Woodbridge, Virginia; one grandson, Mason Benedict of Woodbridge, Virginia. The family may be contacted at the residence on 140 Jessup Street and will meet friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday night. Fisher Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
