Former Miami resident Esther Lomeli Chavez, 93, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2013, at Phoenix Mountain Nursing Center in Phoenix. She was born in Mammoth, Arizona on January 13, 1919, the daughter of Sara (Escalante) & Trinidad Lomeli. She graduated from Hayden High School as valedictorian in May 1938. In August 1938, she married her high school sweetheart Frank Chavez. Their marriage was blessed with four children. In 1941, they went to Los Angeles where Frank attended Barber College. They moved back to Arizona where Frank opened a barber shop in Miami. They lived there for 60 years, then on to Phoenix to be closer to family. Esther & Frank celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary on August 21, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Rafael and Conrado, sister Vicki Parra and four infant siblings. Esther leaves behind in loving memory her husband Frank; her four children Frank Daniel Chavez & his wife Katie, Joe Edward Chavez & his wife Brenda, James Randolph Chavez & his wife Janet and Valerie Marie Makarsky & her husband David; eight granddaughters, one grandson, 12 great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren. isitation, Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial are being held on Tuesday, January 8th at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, 844 W. Sullivan Street, Miami. Interment will be at Mountain Breeze Memorial Gardens, Miami. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Miles Funeral Services, Miami.
