MCFALLS: Gloria Jean (Hawgood) Obituary
After a life well lived, Gloria Jean (Hawgood) McFalls of Exeter passed away peacefully at LHSC – University Hospital, surrounded by her family on Friday, April 5th, 2024 at the age of 75. Loving wife of Peter McFalls for over 53 years. Proud mother of Jason and Nicole McFalls of Lucan, Shawn McFalls & Carrah Templeman of RR2 Crediton and Allan and Summer McFalls of Woodstock. Loving and patient grandma to her seven grandchildren: Ethan, Connor, Nolan & Marlo; Andy (Maryna); Maddy & Mallory. Predeceased by her parents, Charles & Jean Hawgood, her father and mother-in-law, Percy & Margaret McFalls as well as a brother and sister-in-law, Richard & Carole McFalls.
Gloria was born in Dresden, Ontario and moved around as a child, living in France and Dartmouth NS before heading to Virginia where she completed her high school and university. Upon graduation, she moved back to Ontario and married Peter in 1970. She was a supply teacher for several years, a court reporter for the Exeter TA and as her children got older, she delivered mail at the north end of Exeter.
She and Peter alone, and in many instances with friends and family, enjoyed various trips to places such as Australia and New Zealand, Hawaii, Mexico and to several timeshare destinations throughout Canada and the US. Gloria enjoyed the solitude of the mornings on her balcony, coffee in hand. She was a member of the Exeter Lawn Bowling Club for over 40 years, which she represented when she won the gold medal at Nationals on three separate occasions. She was inducted into the Ontario Lawn Bowls Hall of Fame in 2019. Gloria will miss watching curling on tv, cheering on the Blue Jays, attending her grandchildren’s events, having campfires, games nights and visiting with her “grandpets”.
A celebration of Gloria’s life will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, EXETER on Saturday, April 13th from 1 – 4 PM. If so desired, wear something green, as it was Gloria’s favourite colour. Cremation has taken place with inurnment in Exeter Cemetery.
