It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of (Margaret) Anita Verzyden announce her passing on February 9th,2022 at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto with her family by her side.
Anita was born August 28th 1947 in Peterborough Ontario to Leigh and Anna Hunt. She graduated from St. Peter’s Secondary School before following in her mother’s footsteps to become a registered nurse, later graduating from St Michael’s School of Nursing in Toronto. She dedicated her life to helping others, having spent time as an emergency room nurse, a member of the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) and as a dialysis nurse. Anita retired from the profession in 2013 providing care through Camp Dorset and Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Orillia.
Her lifelong care for others was felt by her family especially. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Leendert (Lane) Verzyden, children; Christopher (Catherine), Leigh-Anne (Ben) and Stephen (Jessica), as well as her grandchildren; Heidi, Carson, Gus, Finn, Levi, Meril and one more expected in April. Anita will also be deeply missed by her extended family and friends.
Anita met her husband Lane in 1977 while on a ski trip to Huntsville where their love for each other blossomed into a marriage lasting 44 years. They started their life together in Toronto, before moving to Ennismore, Ontario where they raised their three children. Anita was an avid reader and loved to spend her time skiing and curling in the winter, and tending to her beautiful gardens in the summer. She was a dog lover, enjoying the companionship of Holly, Belle, Bailey and Suki. She also looked forward to time spent on weekends and during the summer on Echo Lake in Baysville. She created fond memories with her friends, family, children and grandchildren on the beach. Anita eventually retired in Baysville on Echo Lake, and for the past two years resided in her home located in Burk’s Falls.
Anita worked tirelessly for her children. She made sure they had everything they needed to succeed in life and was regularly involved in their education, volunteering to support school events and creating opportunities for her children. She later extended this devotion to her grandchildren. Throughout their lives, Anita and Lane devoted themselves to one another. The love they shared was immeasurable and resonated with every member of her family.
Anita will be remembered for the love she had for both her immediate and extended family, the compassion she had for others, her kindness and the strong friendships she established during her life.
