GIUSEPPE MERULLA

1 août 1923 –  28 août 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Giuseppe (Peppino/Joe) Merulla who passed away on August 28, 2021 at the age of 98, leaving to mourn family and friends. Beloved husband of the late Carmela (Melina). Cherished father of Vita (Sam), Cathy (Miguel) and Frank (Teresa). Adored Nonno to GianFranco, Anthony, Aidan, Amanda, Tyler and Ashley. He will be missed by his brother-in-law, Mariano. Giuseppe was loved by many nieces and nephews in Canada, USA and Italy.
Giuseppe was born in Italy and moved to Canada with his family in 1952. He retired from Rice Construction Group where he worked in maintenance until his 65th birthday. He lost his vision to Retinitis Pigmentosa gradually throughout his lifetime. This was his biggest challenge, but he always found a way to adapt and overcome it. His passions included gardening, listening to hockey games, music and spending time with family-especially his grandchildren.
More than anything Giuseppe wanted to spend his last years surrounded by his family in his own home. He loved listening to the conversations around him and looked forward to his Saturday visits with his brother-in-law Mariano. They would sit for hours talking about the old days.
Before COVID, Giuseppe enjoyed going to the day programs at Seniors Life Enhancement Centre in Oakville and Sam McCallion Day Centre in Port Credit. Thanks to the staffs for their care and attention to his needs.
Thanks also to the many PSWs, nurses and respite workers who visited him. Their dedication, care and kindness provided such comfort to him and the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Seniors Life Enhancement Centre, Sam McCallion Day Centre or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
Giuseppe will be sadly missed by family and friends!
