Antonio CERVI Obituary
At Bluewater Health Palliative Care, Sarnia, on Thursday, August 23, 2018, surrounded by his loving family and with all the Angels at his side, Antonio passed away peacefully into the Lord’s hands at the age of 91. Beloved husband of Natalina (Lidia) (Coppola) for 63 years. Loving father of John, Bruno and his wife Janet (Durco) and Mario. Cherished and proud grandfather of 6 much loved grandchildren: Christopher, Dayna and her fiancé Andrew, Frank, Nadine and her husband Joel, Martina and Cole. Antonio was the beloved son of the late Giovanni Battista and Macioce Maria Loreta Cervi of Italy. Dear brother of the late Cesidia (the late Eugenio) Di Bona of Sarnia, Iolanda (the late Giacomo) Vano of Italy and Speranza (Vincenzo) Vano of Italy. He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and friends. Antonio was born in Alvito, Frosinone, Italy in 1927. He was raised on the family farm, educated in Alvito and then went off to serve in the Italian Armed Forces just after World War II. Once he completed his military service, he decided to immigrate to Canada in 1953 at the age of 26. He met his wife Lidia in Windsor, Ontario in 1955, who had immigrated from Atina, Italy at the age of 20. Within the year, and after a few romantic dances (3), they married and moved to the (Bluewater) community in Sarnia. Antonio found employment with the LiUNA Local 1089, where he spent the next 40 years working in the Petrochemical Industry in the Chemical Valley. Antonio was a passionate winemaker, always trying to perfect his batches; and enjoyed tending and growing his vegetable garden, especially all the tomatoes needed to make Lidia’s special Italian red sauce. He loved playing Italian cards with his special buddies while smoking those Old Port wine-tipped cigars; fixing up his home, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends. Family and friends will be received at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. with prayers being offered at 8:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at ST. MICHAEL ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1920 Wildwood Dr., Bright’s Grove, on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. Entombment to follow at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery, Sarnia. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Sunshine Foundation of Canada, and Make-A-Wish Southwestern Ontario Canada (cheques only at the funeral home please).
