Doris passed away peacefully at Oliver Lodge on Tuesday January 3, 2017 at the age of 85. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Cheryl (Jake) Fehr, grandchildren Devon (Angela), Brendan (Jennifer), Ryan (Katelyn Kuspira) and great grandchildren Arianna, Lucas and Gemma; her son Wayne (Karen) and their children Courtney (Buzz), Brendon, Lucas, Adam (Robin) and their son Nicholas. Doris is survived by her sisters Thelma, Helen (Don) and Sonja, sister-in-law Ruth, brother in-law Terry (Maxine). Doris was predeceased by her husband of 61 years Donald, in August 2014.
Doris was born in Prince George, BC to Ted and Sigrid Haugen, later moving and growing up in Ordale, Saskatchewan. She married Donald Antill February 28, 1953. After working at National Drugs for a time, she took great pride in her new role as mother, home-maker and hostess-extraordinaire.
Doris was involved in the Saskatoon Cosmopolitan Club and Newmarket Lioness Club, and was recognized for her volunteer work for over 40 years both at Stensrud Lodge in Saskatoon and various nursing homes in Newmarket Ontario. Doris was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and served in hospitality and the altar guild. Many seasons were spent with family at favourite vacation spots at Waskesiu and Emma Lake. Doris never missed an opportunity to dance, from the time she met Don at the Pike Lake Dance Hall over 60 years ago, to the big band era at Watrous, to jiving with any and all seniors whom she would convince to get up and dance. She was never too old to get on the floor to play with her children and grandchildren, she truly enjoyed life to the fullest!
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff and caregivers at Oliver Lodge for their loving and compassionate care. A funeral service for Doris will be held on Saturday January 7, 2017 at 11:00 at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th St, first right past Briargate Rd). Arrangements entrusted to Hillcrest Funeral Home.
