MATTISON, THELMA BOYD Thelma Boyd Mattison of Hoover, Alabama died Thursday, January 5, 2012. A native of Birmingham, born in 1911 and known to close friends as "Stumpy". Mrs. Mattison was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Walker C. Mattison; two brothers, Houston Boyd and Bradford Boyd; one sister, Dora Lee Jenkins. Mrs. Mattison grew up in the Birmingham area and graduated from Woodlawn High School class of 1929. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church, Vestavia Country Club, and The Club. In earlier years she was active in several civic organizations and a charter member of Women’s Club House 3rd District A.F.W.C. Former board member and president of Birmingham Girls Club Inc. and Red Cross Volunteer during WWII. A life member of Birmingham Humane Society Auxiliary and active in Old Red Maple Garden Club. Mrs. Mattison was interested in sports and was a former board member and president of Women’s Alabama Golf Association and has served on the Board of Women’s Southern Golf Association. She was a member of Birmingham Golf Association Hall of Fame, and a member of Les Soirees Supper Club, Survivors: nephew, Lee Jenkins (Joan) of Birmingham; niece, Mildred Lipka (Bob) Apopka, FL and several great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Elmwood Chapel followed by the service at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery
