Connie Diane Garrett Obituary check_circle

Connie Diane Garrett Atkinson of Conway died of cancer in her home surrounded by her family in Conway on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011.
She was born May 31, 1951 to Hazel Virginia Oliver Garrett (Johnson), who survives and the late William Charles Garrett. She grew up in a close-knit family, spending her summers on the family farm near Pontotoc, Miss. After graduating from the University of Mississippi, she married Keith Edward Atkinson of Oxford, Miss., in 1972. In addition to being the devoted mother of two children, she earned her master of science (M.S.) in speech-language pathology from the University of Mississippi in 1973. Throughout her career in public schools and hospitals of Mississippi and Arkansas, she served hundreds of children and adults.
She is survived by her husband Keith Atkinson; her children, Emily Kate (Atkinson) Whitten, now of Nashville, Tenn., and Scott Edward Atkinson of Chicago, Ill.; her grandchildren, Rebecca Whitten and Anna Whitten; her mother and grandmother, Hazel Johnson and Annie Oliver of Houlka, Miss.; and her sister Denise Kelly of Copperas Cove, Texas.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Griffin Leggett Funeral Home with the Rev. David Hoffmann officiating. Burial will be in Mississippi.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday at Griffin Leggett Funeral Home, 1751 Dave Ward Drive, Conway, 501-327-5000.
