Ong, Henry
82, of Mesa, AZ passed away on January 2, 2013. Born and raised in Mesa, Henry was a graduate of Mesa High School. Following graduation, he studied languages at Ling Nam University in Canton, China, where his studies were cut short by the Communist invasion. He later served two years in Korea with the U.S. Army and upon his return, he helped manage his family’s grocery store, the Evergreen Market. Henry took over ownership of the business and managed the butcher shop until his retirement. A lover of the outdoors, he was an avid fisherman and spent most of his spare time in his garden. He is preceded in death by his father Tong Sheng Ong, mother Wong Young (Mary) Ong, and siblings Virginia, Turman and Benjamin Ong. He is survived by sisters Helen Ong, Josephine Wall (Robert), nieces Tamara Havlik, Roseanne Acevedo and Rebecca Ong, nephew Michael Wall, sister-in-law Michele Ong (Rick), longtime companion Phoung Ruzicka, and Phuong’s daughter Karen Ruzicka. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 10 AM. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2013 from 6 PM-8PM at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way in Mesa.
