Robert J ”bob” Bachman Obituary check_circle

Robert J. "Bob" Bachman, 89, beloved husband of Jane C. (DiYulio) Bachman, died on Tuesday (December 6, 2011) at Touchpoints at Farmington. Bob was born in Bristol on September 28, 1922 and was a son of the late Julius and Georgianna (Perry) Bachman. He was a lifelong Bristol resident and was a retired spring maker, having worked at Tollman Spring, Wallace Barnes Spring and Bristol Spring. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy as a Seaman First Class. Known as a "tin can sailor" for his sea duty aboard the destroyer USS Bullard, he received the Asiatic Pacific Medal, American Theater Medal and the Victory Medal. He was an avid and excellent golfer and teacher of the game and was a long time member of the Pequabuck Golf Club. Following his retirement, he had worked part time as a funeral assistant at the Funk Funeral Home in Bristol. He was a member of the American Legion Seicheprey Post 2 and the Bristol Elk’s Lodge #1010, and St. Matthew Church, Forestville. In addition to his wife of 64 years, Bob is survived by two sons, Marc Bachman of Bristol and Robert Bachman of Southington; a brother, James Bachman of Bristol; a sister, Ethel Swenton of Bristol; two granddaughters, Laura Bachman of Cromwell and Kellie Hovey of Bloomfield; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson, Eric Bachman.
Funeral services will be held on Friday (December 9, 2011) at 12 Noon from Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, to St. Matthew Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 PM. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Plainville. Relatives and friends may call at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, on Thursday between 6 and 8 PM.
