Troy Lee Armel, 44, of Des Moines’s South Side, ended his journey on Earth on January 25, 2012 at Taylor House Hospice after a heroic battle with cancer. After a lifetime of work outside the home, he became a wonderful housedad for the last few years of his life, taking care of his young daughter Montana. He enjoyed visiting the family lake home in Missouri, fishing, baseball, music, barbecues, picnics, sledding, all with family, and coloring with his daughter. Troy met his wife Kendra while living in Phoenix, Arizona in 2000, and was able to celebrate their ten year anniversary with her in the hospital on January 22, 2012.
Those left to cherish his memory include: his wife Kendra (Silvey) Armel; daughter, Montana Sandra Jeannette Armel ; chosen son, Tony (Kaela) Hartsock; mother, Jeanne Wheeler; grandmother Jeannette Whelchel; his in-laws, two aunts, an uncle, cousins, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by: father Danny Armel, father in law William Silvey, grandfather Kenneth Whelchel, grandparents, Fred and Betty Armel and cousin Jason Wood.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 1 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Indianola Heights Christian Church, 3139 SE 8th Street. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 2 at 11 a.m. at the church. Graveside ceremony will follow at Webb Cemetery, Spring Hill, Iowa.
