Naomi E. (Bates) Bray
Evansville, Ind.
Naomi E. (Bates) Bray, 89, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Deaconess Hospice Care Center.
Naomi was born in Newburgh, Indiana on February 7, 1922 to the late Russell and Evelyn (Wilkins) Bates.
Noami worked at Deaconess Hospital where she retired in 1996. She also worked at Servel in the 40’s and 50’s working on airplane wings during World War II. Naomi attended Tri State Beauty College and had owned and operated her own beauty shop for many years. She enjoyed playing bingo, crocheting and playing the organ. Naomi loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed.
Naomi is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Whitaker (Ron) of Newburgh, IN; sons, Donald Ray Gear (Jan) of Corona, CA, Robert Daniels of Evansville, IN; sister, Elma Lee "Midge" Smith of Evansville, IN; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Naomi is preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Faye Gear; her parents; sisters, Virginia Blackford, Nelda Sanders, Doris Hopkins; brothers, Shirley Leroy Bates, Russell Bates Jr. and a great-granddaughter, Betty Jean Whitaker.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Monday, January 16, 2012 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Avenue, Evansville, Indiana 47711 with Pastor Garry Lanham officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 12:00 PM until 6:00 PM, Sunday, January 15, 2012 at Browning Funeral Home and from 12:00 noon until service time on Monday.
