Jeffery Alan Elwell

YOUNGSVILLE – Jeffery Alan Elwell, 58, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, January 12th at his Youngsville, LA home after a brief battle with cancer.

Jeff was a native of Hobbs, New Mexico. He was a Lafayette, LA resident of 50 years and a member of United Methodist Church of the Covenant. He is a 1971 graduate of Lafayette High School and attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana. His interest in nature and his curiosity about the Earth led him to make a career out of geology for the next 30 plus years. He was a Geological Consultant in the oil & gas industry. At the time of his illness, he was self-employed and offered his services and knowledge as a well-rounded geologist to numerous companies in the oil field.

Jeff was passionate about life, music, and his family. He enjoyed sitting on the porch with his "girls," listening to music, and telling stories about his travels and experiences in hopes that his family and friends would use these memories as constant reminders to always live your life to the fullest without any regret. His vast knowledge and outlook about music, the Earth, society, and politics provided countless hours of conversations that inspired others to take a second look at the world in a different light. He will be remembered as an extraordinary teacher, philosopher, geologist, husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Cynthia Sue Kincaid Elwell; his three beautiful daughters, Jessica, Michelle, and Melissa Elwell, all of Lafayette, LA; one amazing grandson, Cameron Mikel Elwell; two brothers, Robert Elwell of Lafayette LA and Terry Elwell of Wenatchee, WA; two nephews, Ryan Elwell and Chris Kincaid; seven nieces, Tara Elwell, Amy Clark Hulin, Heidi Angerstien, Courtney Elwell, Maggie Boles, Mikela Elwell and Heather Troutman; two brothers-in-law, Jack Kincaid and Carl Kincaid; and one sister-in-law, Beverly Clark.

He is preceded in his death by his parents, Homer Elwell and the former Bricene Goble.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille’s SOUTHSIDE Lafayette location on Friday, January 13, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
