PRESQUE ISLE – Harold Stewart Britton, 77, better known to his friends as "Britt," died Jan. 27, 2012, at his home. He was born July 8, 1934, in Camden, son of Walter and Blanche Britton, and was raised in Westfield. Britt is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Louise E. Britton of Presque Isle; two sons, John H. Britton and wife, Rebecca, of Fayetteville, N.C., and Alan R. Britton and wife, Deborah, of Falmouth; six grandchildren; one sister, Muriel Blotner of Apache Junction, Ariz.; one brother, James S. Winslow of Tainan City, Taiwan; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, John Winslow; and sister, Winifred Shaw. Britt was a U.S. Army veteran and received special congressional recognition for his service to his country in the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, Whitecoat Program. Subsequent to his military service, he worked at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C. He moved to Presque Isle in 1963 and worked in the potato processing industry as a quality control manager as well as a plant manager for many years. Britt was a member of Presque Isle Elks Lodge No. 1954 and National Rifle Association, and was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, camping and snowmobiling. Friends may call noon until the time of the funeral services 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with the Rev. Dr. Ken Phelps officiating. A military graveside service will be held at a later date at Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou, to include his family and friends.
