Roy Victor Abundis

Roy (Rogelio) Victor Abundis was born on December 17, 1921 in San Antonio, TX to Ofelia and Vicente Abundis. Roy joined his beloved wife of 62 years, Meguella, in eternal rest just one week after her passing. He was called home by the Lord on December 10, 2011. He is preceded in death by his sisters Lilly, Dora, and Esperanza Abundis and his brother Ramiro Gonzales. He is survived by his children Sylvia Fuentes, Rose Vallin, and Victor Abundis. He is also survived by his sister Oralia Rodriguez and brother Carlos Abundis. Grandpa Abundis is loved by his grandchildren Jennifer De La Rosa, Elizabeth Jacobson, Victor Abundis III, Christopher Abundis, Arthur Toby Jimenez, Rosanna Abundis Vallin, Mark Andrew Jimenez, Robyn Jimenez, and Alexander Abundis. He will also be missed by his great-grandchildren Jonathan, Jared, Julia, and Jasmine De La Rosa; Asher and Lyla Jacobson; and Charlie and Alana Jimenez as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Roy learned the meaning of hard work at a very early age. While in grade school he sold newspapers along Broadway in San Antonio to help support his family. He also worked in a bakery and learned to drive delivery trucks by the age of 10. He went on to work at Stanley Rubber Stamp Company. In 1949, he married Meguella De Leon and together they had three children. Years later, Roy attended and graduated from Lewis Barber College and went on to enjoy a successful career as a barber. In the late 1960s he began a new career as a custodian at Harmony Hills Elementary in the North East ISD. In retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and family. The family would like to thank Client Choice (Tina), the staff at Westover Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, the staff at Christus Santa Rosa-Westover Hills, the volunteers at Meals on Wheels, Reverend Msg. Pat Cronin and the staff of Prince of Peace Catholic Church well as Dr. Theodore Suh and Dr. Fadi Abouzahr. A special thanks to Roy’s brother Carlos Abundis for his love and support as well as to the many friends and family members who gave of their time and love to both Roy and Meguella. Visitation will be held at Porter Loring Funeral Home at 1101 McCullough Ave. beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 2011.
